Troy Davis

Dear reader…

Thanks for all the comment I had so far. Last week Troy Davis died, after the emotional traumatism it has cause in the United States, and it other countries in the world, it seems life has continued, and  sadly with time his execution will be forgotten, and no lessons would be learn from his death.

When Obama has been elected in 2008 there was hope that this country will change for the better. Indeed it was the first time in the United States history that a black man entered to the white house. Sadly he remained silent and did not try to take part for Troy Davis. At the same time last week he said explicitly that he will not support the application to the U.N for a Palestinian state. He will support Israel.  In my opinion Mr Obama is seeking to be relected next year and therefore he has been advised to not take position in order to gather more votes among the largest possible people.

But how about the people ? The black people who contribute to elected him ? I suppose people have voted  for Mr Obama because  they had hopes. There had hopes beause he has be able to gather the black and white community. They’re was hope for a better justice system. And for me that is in this kind of situations, that the president should taken a strong positon in favor of  Troy Davis.

People would have expected Mr Obama to have convictions and intergrity regarless of his electoral sake.

Mr Obama consider  that United States a great country and civilized country. I beleive, Mr Obama have lost credibility when he says that he is seeking justice, because his silence shows that you his interests prime over his convictions.

Here you can see a video of Tim Wise an anti-racist activist doing a plege after  Troy Davis execution . His pledge is very interesting and ask a lot of questions about the american system and values. Unfortunately his speech is not complete on the video. I am a European and I don’t know so much of the american history. But I can see that George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln had values and morality, and they have contribute to build, the idea the nations of the United States of America. What are the values that nows United States shows to the world ?

In Europe we heard about this Troy David death, people were also shocked. Sadly, because of the economical crisis the media are more concerned about their national debt, the greek bail out, so they have less covered  Troy Davis excution news.  The death penality have been abolished, and it has been widely accepted by the population that death penality wasn’t right.

One the book which has started to inspired people was “the last day of a condemned man”. I remember to have read this book when I was a teenager, and this book stayed in mind. One particularity of this book is that the reader do not know about the crime commited, by the condemned man. People could argue that they want to know the crime. However Victor Hugo have wonderfully describe the feeling at the first person of the condemned .  Whatever he has done, and the condeemn whish to redeem himself. The death penaly is not right and just, because it does not give a chance of the condemn to have hope to changes.

Morever when the case of Troy Davis where they was a lot of doubt of his guilt he was still executed. As Tim Wise have stated in his speech the supreme court judge this at the very last minute of his execution. Why ? How a judgment of man life could be taken in a hurry ? At the same time we see can Apple suing competitors because of copyright infridgment taking a lot of time. I beleive there is  a team  of lawyers who get enormous royalties if they win Apple case. At the same time there wasn’t hurry among laywers to defend Troy David because he could afford to have a bench of lawyers  to defend his case. Yes that is the justice is led by money more than sense of values, morality and human rights.

So for me the Anonymous movement is  born to the reactions of this injustice, among many others. If a country does not try to act for a  better justice and does not hold values for the people,  this movement will grow and grow up to the point where it will be a revolution. I do not wish a revolution but a global revolution is happening. Internet allows to  spread information and it’s getting more difficult for the officials to hide some informations which discredit the governements . Any government shoud hold their responsabilty for the people not for the interest of a rich minority. In Europe we are also no better as in U.S. and many injustice happens as well.

What can we do… ?

Why I will not belong to Anonymous

Dear reader,

Thank you to stop by here, and for the comment I had so far. I am trying to maintain this blog when I have time. My main topics will be related to the privacy over internet, and to the hackivist members Anonymous.

I repeat again I don’t belong to this hactivist group Anonynous, and I will not in belong nor likely to involved in any of their actions the future. On this post I will explain why. I share some of their ideas, such as the freedom on internet, and that’s why I talk about them, and support this particular idea. But I don’t agree with all of them. My main issues is that I want to keep my freedom of thinking. As soon as I get involved with their actions I will not have my freedom anymore. I am following them, and interested in their ideas, but I would like to keep my critical thinking . Picture is from there.

As their revendications are broad it’s difficult to see what are their true motivations behind their war against the “system”. Yes the world is unfair in many ways, and sometimes it is right to fight for ideas. But something wrong, as this group claim they have no leader. I don’t beleive it because, the have establish a plan, which mean someone/or some people might lead this group. Indeed in the recent year when this group was only a hacking group I suppose Lulzsec have form because they did not agree with each other. Why hacking if it could not serve a cause ? So far from what I see Lulzsec do this for fun whereas Anonymous group is more politcaly engaged.

Making revolution is not always something good. History have shown that the people who have succedded a revolution in a country have then taken power and  then oppressed their citizen . I beleive because they have tasted the taste of power. One example beteween many others would be the Iranian revolution in 1979. If you interested  about it you can find the wikipedia link here. So far democracy have shown to be the least problematic political system, because it is the people who choose their leaders, it is not imposed by force. That is why in the Middle East country and in Northern Africa the people have fought for. And maybe thanks to the anonymous groups they have helped to spread their messages across the world.

One thing I can notice is that for the first time, this movement is wordwide, it doesn’t want to belong to any nations. However it would be very complicated to lead a worldwide revolution against the “system” where the political and economics system  works differently everywhere. Morever people who have shared the common ideas of revolutions may have future differents interest. Eg Che Guevara and Fidel Castro have shared the common values against the oppression of Batista, but then their path have split.  Che Guevara have choosen integrity and Castro have choosen power.

I beleive there is other way of doing than trying to make a revolution because the “system”, is unfair, and being anonymous might not be the solution.  Anna Hazare is not an anonymous person, and the Indian politician are shaking now because of his his actions. He fight for anti-corruptions and I beleive he will changes the Indian society in depth. You can read his interview on the Hindu newpaper there. The group Anonymous have spread the hoax that they will hack Facebook few month ago. I beleive that their motivation was more to talk about them rather than hacking really. Their objective is rally the many people as the can to their cause and be heard . I beleive whatever you’re ideas you want to fight for, you should not be anonymous but rather be known  keep intergrity to your ideas up to the end.

How can you be heard if you’re an anonymous ?

Somalia

Dear reader,

You may find out that I am a French speaker, and a lot of sources I will try to spread may be in French. However all my post will in the language of shakespeare. Today I would like to talk about Somalia. Nobody cares what happen there, because the media does not widely cover it.It only covered it when an occidental is kidnapped by hijackers. The Guardian said another region of Somalia will be in famine. (Article is here), and still from the same source :

The UN says 750,000 people are now at risk of death in the next four months if there is no adequate response, an increase from the July figure of 350,000.

This country had been at war since now 20 years and situation is becoming dramatic there. Still nobody cares in U.S or Europe more busy to talk about the economy. If you speak French you may would like to look at these documents from channel Arte at this address here

The image is from this article in English there. You may also find more information about it. Paul Moreira went to Somalia to investigate about the toxic waste traffic. He went to interview the hijackers. Apparently you can find on the beach barrels containing toxic waste. Occidental companies did not want to pays for these waste so they dropped in Somalia where nobody cares about it. Paul Moreira explain that this happen because of  occidental companies  but also some Somalian officials which were corrupt and let things happen quietly. Therefore things are grey and may not be what people think. That may also be one the reason which hijackers appears where nobody really rules the country.

Also few years ago I remember and interview from someone involved in Somalia in humanitarian organisation. He explained as civil happened in Somalia that, they had to buy weapons to defend themselves against some miliita. He was wondering what to do. After reflexion he said that it was useless to continue to be in Somalia as he did not want to buy weapon, and be part of this war in another way. His mission was to heal people not kill them.

What followed was a long time of civil war between militia or Musilms/Christian and no humanitarian organisation there and left the country in chaos. There is no official government since 1991. And there is famine now, and as I said at the begining of my post nobody cares…This country is not online…

What can the Anoymous do about it ?

Privacy threats

Dear unknown reader

Since few days I have been looking to the Anonymous videos on line. I have been searching for a more construct pledge about their ideology, more than their campaign for their new operations such as Occupy Wall Street on 17 th September. We can agree or disagree with the mean they use to spread their ideas. I don’t feel belong to a group because I would like to keep my freedom of thinking and actions. For now I’m writing a blog with to share ideas.

I think this movement is growing and will be growing even further. Government cannot ignore this movement anymore. Everybody would like to be free. On the other way around when you feel oppressed it means that part of your freedom is taken away.  And we should protect our freedom that is why I am trying to spread the anonymous ideas .

I would like to emphasis some points which may have been not highlighted by the group before on this blog.

Google is taking seriously our right to privacy and so they say, no confidential will be used outside of the company. Eric Schmitt state few years ago

if there is something you don’t anyone to know, maybe you shouldn’t be doing in it the first place.

And moreover he says judgment matter. I remember to have a conversation with someone who told me he doesn’t care as he did nothing wrong in his life, and he think that’s not a problem if someone read private emails with his girlfriend. He has nothing to hide he says. The problem here, that  he doesn’t don’t think further in my opinion.

Eric Schmitt also said that his company must comply with United State law Patriot Act. It means that if the government may have access to information about you. People such as my friend would say that’s all right, I am not a criminal nor a terrorist so I don’t care about it. Indeed Judgment matters here.  Government may not want to look for individuals, such as my friend but may would like to survey civilian may not fit to system made for us. Recently Google agreed in 2010 to share information to the NSA to prevent cyber attacks, so they say. Check this link from the Whasington Post there

As our privacy goes away and it may become like 1984 from George Orwell without no one to notice it has happen. Everyone enjoys Google services, Facebook at what cost ? Dear reader let me ask you a question?

How much of privacy are you ready to trade off for Google services?

Think carefully about it the previous question. No one can answer for you. I believe that if part of your privacy goes away it is also part of your freedom which goes away.

Thanks for reading.

I am not part of anonymous because I would like to keep my freedom of thinking. I beleive becoming an (h)activist may limits to my freedom of thinking as I will become part of a group .

However I support their cause for freedom of speech. I also beleive there is other actions rather illegal means. I do not agree with all of their statements, and ways of actions however they give a different point of view from what people think usually.

I’m getting eaten by an Apple

Unfortunately these days, Apple products are becoming more and more popular. People like their products, and nowadays it seems the fashion to have a their products, and I often hear people saying it is company which innovates.

I see in Apple only restrictions and I don’t think that’s a company which innovates, despite everyone thinking. The have setup it is business model which they are trying to protect more than innovate in my opinion.

For instance the Apple Store. As the phone became popular, people have started to write application on their platform and Apple reserve the right to choose which application they want via this central platform. In my opinion it is the people who innovates by introducing news ideas, new applications, towards their devices platform, hence it is not Apple which innovates. Moreover Apple takes 30% of an application cost and reserves the right to choose whether or not to publish it. Mr Jobs doesn’t want flash on his devices because flash technology would allow running many application without their control and that is a threat to his very lucrative business model.

More recently Apple is trying to forbid the sales of their tablet competitors in Europe. The official reason is because the design of their competitors tablet products is very similar and Apple claim there is copyright infringement. But in my opinion the real reason is to protect their market in Europe as they don’t want to lose market shares.

Again by this practice Apple does not seek to innovate. They did not invent the tablet concept which was already there before hand. It is just how they advertise, and communicate in the mass media.

There is a lot a of other reasons on technical aspects and some others why I will never buy Apple. Meanwhile this company everywhere and I feel surrounded, I’ll resist.

Think different
